Hmm….ingredients I want to see in a crackpot recipe. I think I would love to see a pot roast recipe in the crock pot. Carrots, potatoes, and maybe with a kick. I’ve had regular pot roast and never know how to season except with salt and pepper.

      • Hi Christine! Saw your post and thought maybe I could help out. I brown my roast 1st, put it in the crock and add some worcestershire sauce (not sure if that is spelled correctly), soy sauce, 2 capfuls of vinegar (helps to tenderize) and squeeze some ketchup in. Add water 1/4 of the way up the roast. Also, if you like onions, carmelize some with the meat while it is browning. This makes for a really tasty base for the gravy too after the meat is done. For the kick, get a jar of Pepperocini and add some cut up peppers and some of the juice from the jar. ENJOY!!!

    606. Hearty Crockpot Bacon, Lentil & Potato Soup
5 slices bacon, chopped into small pieces
1 pound dried lentils, sorted and rinsed
1 cup mixed beans (can be found in bulk health section or in bags with beans)
4 cups vegetable, chicken, or beef broth (I used bullion cubes)
4 carrots, chopped into small pieces
2-3 potatoes, chopped into small pieces (I didn’t peel them)
      1 small onion, chopped
      4 cups water
      1 teaspoon dried thyme leaves
      Salt & pepper to taste
Throw all ingredients into Crockpot. Stir. Cover, cook on low for 8-9 hours or high for 4-5 hours or until lentils are tender. Stir well before serving, add salt or whatever is needed to make it taste the way you like it, and enjoy! I recommend serving with buttered slices of Italian or French bread. Yum!

      Beef Veggie Pot

2lbs ground beef browned with onion, and drained.
Add 1/4 cup flour to hamburger and cook until bubbly adding a little olive oil, if necessary.
Add meat mixture to 6 qt crockpot.
Stir in one 46 oz of V-8 juice.
Add 3 lbs of mixed vegetables, 6 bouillon cubes and enough water to cover. Cook on high until bubbly. Turn to low overnight. If you like, you can add 1/2 lb of orzo about 2 hours before serving; stir occassionally after adding pasta. ( the orzo will make the soup more of a stew) This is a family favorite and great on cold evenings.
